Internet Killing Kollywood

Internet has been one of the greatest achievement for us. Though it' quiet known for doing just the opposite. Being beneficial one way, it has made some's nightmare true another way. One of those who are seeing their nightmares in real is Nepali Film Industry - Kollywood.

The history of Nepali films hasn't been much long. And again, it seems much shorter because most of those in this industry are unprofessionals. Almost all of them are into this field because of their hobby. From actors to script writers to directors to producers to cinematographers; no one knows about their work in real. With such team of movie makers, what do we expect ? Definitely no way a good movie. This has been the main reason why Nepali (kollywood) movies aren't progressing in terms of quality.

And now there's another on their way. It's the internet. These days kollywood movies are published on the internet, which is reducing its viewers to few thousand. Such activities are mostly being done by Nepalese living abroad for their personal income.

We asked one of those website's webmaster why are they doing such crime; his answer was, "Crime ! Who Care ? Those kollywood movie makers who have hardly any knowledge of their work, may not even know their movies are being published on the internet. In one way, its good for them that we are promoting Nepali movies. On the other hand, even if they are known about this, there's hardly anyone literate to file a case against us. And even if their is one, where will they file their case ? In Nepal ? That won't work ?"

This seems a serious issue not just to the kollywood movie makers but also for Nepali music companies and artists as its happenning with the music field too. If government supports, it is possible to push those criminals to prison.

कुनै गलत क्षेत्रमा त जीवन समर्पित गरिन - दिपक आलोक

यो एक चलचित्रकर्मीको जीवन साच्चै एक चलचित्र जस्तै बनेको कथा हो - आफ्ना चलचित्रहरुमा कति चोटि त आफुले नै सृजना गरेका पात्रहरुले मृत्युसँग लडेर जितेका परिवेशहरु पनि बनाए हो लान् दिपकले । तर आज उनी आफै मृत्युको अगाडी शीर झुकाएर बसेका छन् ।

आफ्नो जीवनको ३० वर्षभन्दा बढी कला र साहित्य क्षेत्रमा सुम्पिएका दिपक, आज पैसाको अभावमा मृत्युसँग लड्दै छन् । साहित्यमा पोख्त दिपकले केहि स्तरीय चलचित्रहरु लेखन र निर्देशनको लागि वाहवाइ पनि लुटेका थिए । त्यसबेला, उनको पछि लागेर हिड्नेहरु पनि धेरै थिए, उनका साथीभाईहरु पनि धेरै थिए । तर ति सब पछि लागेर हिड्नेहरु र घनिष्ठ साथीभाईहरु आज विलाएका छन् । आज उनी खाटमा एक्लै लाचार छन् ।

दुबै मृगौलाले काम गर्न छाडिसकेकाले उनी मृत्यु पखिरहेका छन् । २ लाख खर्च भइसक्यो रे र अब उनको परिवार सँग लगभग ५ हजार जति छ कि भन्ने अनुमान गर्छिन् उनकी श्रीमती । एक दिन बिराएर सँधै गर्नुपर्ने उनको डायलसिसको खर्च प्रतेक चोटि १५ हजार लाग्छ, कहिले सम्म पुर्याउछन् त ?
यो अवश्थामा दिपक मृत्यु नजिकिएकोमा भन्दा चलचित्र क्षेत्रबाट दुइ चार जना बाहेक कोहि पनि एक चोटि भेट्न सम्म नआएकोमा दुखी छन् । चलचित्र क्षेत्रमा छँदा घनिष्ठ भएका साथीहरु पनि आज कता छन् कता । यो सब भोग्दा कहिले काँहि, मैले कुनै गलत क्षेत्रमा त जीवन समर्पित गरिन भन्ने लाग्छ भन्छन् उनी । उनकी श्रीमती चलचित्रकर्मीहरुलाई यस्तो भन्छन्, "बिरामी दिपक मात्र हुने होइनन्, कुनै दिन तँपाई पनि हुनसक्नुहुन्छ । पैसा नै ठूलो कुरो होइन, बोलीले सहानुभुति दिन सिक्नुहोस्।" अन्त्यमा दिपक भन्छन्, "मेरो कथा सुनेर भविष्यमा नेपाली कला साहित्य क्षेत्रलाई गलत ढङ्गमा लिन्छन् कि भन्ने डर छ मलाई ।"

यहि तँपाई दिपक आलोकलाई सहयोग गर्न चाहनुहुन्छ भने तँपाई उनका दाई गोपाल काफ्लेलाई ९७७-९८०४३०६३१४मा सर्म्पर्क गर्न सक्नुहुन्छ ।

नेपालको माया लागेर फर्केका होइनन् राजाराम

कुनै बेलाका लोकप्रिय हास्य कलाकार राजाराम पौडेल हालै अमेरीकाबाट स्वदेश फर्केका छन् र त्यो पनि अब फिर्ता नजाने गरि । विदेशीएका यी कलाकार स्वदेश मै बस्ने सोच लिएर आएको कुरा सुन्दा उनको देश प्रतिको माया झल्किन्छ । लाग्छ, सबै यस्तै देशलाई माया गर्ने नेपालीहरु भइदिए - तर, यर्थाथ अलि भिन्न छ ।

Dasdhunga - Another Foolish Movie In The Making

We talked abou this earlier and we are bringing it out again, "Just digital high definition technology doesn't make a movie good enough to be watched." Some thing same is going on these days and its "Dasdhunga".

The makers of the documentary, Greater Nepal are now working on a new movie, Dasdhunga. And we call it the worst side of nepali trend. We Quest Entertainment bringing a High Definition technology in nepali film industry, everyone else is showing off themselves doing the same. With people with zero knowledge of movie making, its definitely going to bring up the worst side of HD movies, if this continues.

The documentary, Greater Nepal was a huge success but the same people making a movie is annoying. There's a vast difference in making a movie and a documentary. If you had watched that documentary, you definitely hadn't find anything good enough else than their issue. We salute for the issue they have come up in the Greater Nepal documentary but technically its a big crap.

We hope such movies won't bud up more in future to kill the digital nepali movies like old 16mm.

Sano Sansar - BullShit, Same As We Predicted

"Kawadi rahechha yaar, What bull shit" were words we heard from the crowd when we came out of the theatre. We had heard the first show was house full, but it was just because of a high expection. On its second show, you could hardly see a hundred viewers.

Alike our prediction two months back, Sano Sansar turned out to be a no good movie. We predicted that people won't be seeing a good/natural acting stuffs, and same happened. The movie makers need to know that just a better technology won't make a good movie. Mr. director, Alok has done the worst job than anyone. We request him not to try making about bullshit in the future and stuck in making music videos.

The movie begins with a korean movie scene from "MY Sassy Girl", which though would seem a good start, it ends up with foolish comedy between Nir Shah and the HERO. What da F ? The director isn't even able to bring out the natural acting from an experienced actor Nir Shah. The dialogues are less delivered and more shouted. Using a sound engineer during the shoot recording live audio could have helped. The play boy's character has acted much natural than others, but it has a role not longer than 5 mins.

For those of us who had thought Sano Sansar would bring back the golden era of kollywood when movies like Saino, Kussume Rumal, Lahure and more were made, we now should be true to ourselves and say, "No Way!".

Although, the story telling was better compared to Kagbeni. The team need to watch more korean movies much seriously and as many times as they can, and learn. Cinematography is OK kind. Unnatural acting was a huge problem with most of the actors in the movie. Few songs were good in terms of composition and other few sounded like old hindi movies from the 80s. Qualified sound engineers could have made the sound quality of both the background score and songs much much better. Background score could have been much better. And last but not the least, the worst part was DIRECTION.

We kindly request Mr. Alok and other music video directors not to come in to movie making, and on the same note request those nepali students learning Film Making courses abroad to come and give it a try. And also to Quest Entertainment, " Please do not show this movie in theatres abroad. Wait till your team bring good movies before showcasing abroad. Save of dignity.

नेपाली चलचित्र - एक विश्लेषण

सन् पचासको दशक आईपुग्दा जहाँ भारतीय चलचित्रको सुरुवात हुन लागेको मात्र थियो, तब पहिलो नेपाली चलचित्रको प्रदर्शन भएको थियो । तर २०६४ साल सम्म आईपुग्दा जहाँ भारतीय चलचित्रले अन्तराष्ट्रिय उचाई छोईसकेका थिए, नेपालमा भने अझै पनि गुणस्तरिय चलचित्र बन्न सकेको थिएन ।
वि.स.२००८ साल, भाद्र २९ गते शुक्रवारको दिन नेपाली चलचित्रको क्षत्रमा सुर्योदय भएको थियो । यसै दिन भारतको कलकत्ताबाट भएको लगानीमा डि. बि. परियारको चलचित्र "सत्य हरिशचन्द्र" को प्रदर्शन भएको थियो । त्यस बेला भारतिय चलचित्र र नेपाली चलचित्रको प्रविधि लगभग उस्तै थियो । त्यसपछि, नेपाली चलचित्र निर्माण लगभग १३ वर्षठप्प रह्यो र पछि आएर २०२१ साल भाद्र २२ गते बुधवारको दिन नेपालकै लगानीमा पहिलो चलचित्र "आमा" निर्माण भयो जुन बेलासम्म भारतीय चलचित्र पनि श्याम स्वयत नै थियो र प्राविधिक हिसाबले पनि केहि परिवर्तन आएको थिएन । तर चलचित्र निर्माणको क्रममा भारतीय चलचित्रकर्मीहरु जहाँ गुणस्तरीय चलचित्र निर्माणमा ध्यान दिन थाले, नेपाली चलचित्रकर्मीहरु भने संख्यात्मक रुपमा धेरै चलचित्र निर्माण तिर लागे ।

वर्षथपिदैं जाँदा, संख्यात्मक रुपमा नेपाली चलचित्रको निर्माण हुनथाल्यो तर गुणस्तर भने जहाँको त्यहि रह्यो । पछि २०४२ साल देखि २०५१ साल सम्म कथित स्वणिम युगको बेला भने केहि प्राविधिक रुपमा नभएपनि विषय वस्तुको आधारमा नेपाली चलचित्रहरुमा केहि नयाँपन देखिएता पनि उल्लेखनिय रुपमा यो लामो समयसम्म रहेन । स्मरण रहोस् सो समयमा अत्याधिक चर्चित र २५ हप्ता चलेर त्यसबेला रेकड कायम गर्न सफल तुल्सी घिमिरेको निर्देशनमा बनेको "कुसुमे रुमाल" त्यति बेलाकै हिन्दी चलचित्र "मिलन"को साभारित अंश हो । यस्तै साभार गर्ने प्रवृति र अदक्ष-अन्पढहरुको भिड ओर्इर्र्रएकोले नेपाली चलचित्र क्षेत्रले कुनै फड्को मार्न सकेन । कथित स्वणिर्म युगमा अत्याधिक सफल मानिएकी नायिका करिश्मा मानन्धर चलचित्र क्षेत्रमा लाग्नु अघि गार्मेन्टमा काम गर्दथिइन् र उनले कक्षा ८ सम्म पढेकी थिइन् । यसै युगमा उनी जस्तै चलचित्रको बारेमा शुन्य ज्ञान भएकाहरुको अर्को भीड ओईरिने क्रम जारी रह्यो । देखासिकिको भरमा क्यामेराम्यान, नायक, नायिका, निर्देशक आदिको जन्मले नेपाली चलचित्र क्षेत्र अझै सेलाउँदै गयो ।

पछि चलचित्र "युग देखि युगसम्म" बाट यस क्षेत्रमा नयाँ आशा जन्मियो, जो थिए राजेश हमाल । त्यस बेला यदि राजेश हमालले चाहेका भए नेपाली चलचित्र क्षेत्रमा साँचो रुपमा सुनौलो युग आउन सक्थ्यो तर त्यसबेलाका एक मात्र पढेलेखेका नायक राजेश हमालले आफू चिच्याए चलचित्र हिट हुने फर्मुला मै चित्त बुझाए । गुणस्तरिय चलचित्रलाई प्राथमिक्ता दिएर नेपाली चलचित्रलाई माथि लैजानु कता हो कता पैसाको लोभमा कुकुरलाई भन्दा ५० हजार कम पारिश्रमिकमा पनि चलचित्र खेल्न उनी पछि परेनन् ।

अहिले कहि वर्षयता, नेपाली चलचित्र क्षेत्रमा नायक नायिकाहरु आफै चलचित्र बनाउने, हल मालिकहरु आफै चलचित्रमा लगानि गर्ने आफ्नै हालमा प्रदर्शन गर्ने,सुटिङ्गका सामान ओसार्नेहरु हावाको भरमा निर्देशक आदिको प्रचलन बढ्दो छ । कथावस्तु कता कता, १० तल्ला घरबाट हाम्फालेको, हेलिकप्टरबाट हाम्फालेको, बढि अङ्ग प्रदर्शन भएको जस्ता कुराहरुको सहायताले चलचित्रहरुको प्रचारप्रसार हुन्छ । अर्कातिर नेपाली चलचित्रकर्मीहरुसँग "किन नेपाली चलचित्र क्षेत्रमा गुणस्तरिय हिसाबले प्ररिवर्तन आउन नसकेको" भन्ने प्रश्नमा लगभग सबै नेपाली चलचित्रकर्मीहरु एउटै उत्तर दिन्छन् कि "भारतिय चलचित्रको झैं करोडौंको लगानि हुँदैन र त्यस्तो प्रविधि हामीसँग छैन" । के यो साँच्चै त्यस्तै हो त ?

नेपाली चलचित्र बन्ने पैसामा संसारका विभिन्न साना राष्ट्रहरुमा गुणस्तरिय चलचित्र बन्छन् र अर्कातिर भारतिय चलचित्रमा प्रयोग हुने ३५ एम एम को चलचित्र प्रविधिमा नेपाली चलचित्रहरु पनि बन्न थालेका छन्, तर खै त राम्रो नेपाली चलचित्र बन्न सकेको - यसले यो र्छलङ्ग हुन्छ कि नेपाली चलचित्रमा परिवर्तन आउन नसकेको अदक्ष चलचित्रकर्मीको भिडले नै हो र यहि भिडको वाहुलियताले चलचित्र क्षेत्रमा लाग्न चाहेका दक्ष जनशक्तिलाई पनि टिक्न नदिन प्रवृति गुणस्तर खस्किनुको अर्को कारण हो ।
हाल आएर नेपाली चलचित्र क्षेत्रमा अन्तराष्ट्रिय स्तरको हाई डेफिनिसन प्रविधि पनि भित्रिएको छ जुन चित्र र ध्वनि दुवैमा अत्याधिक गुणस्तरीय छ तर खैत अझै स्तरिय चलचित्र बनेको ? नयाँ प्रविधि प्रयोग भएको चलचित्र, कागबेनीको प्रविधि बाहेक अरु केहि राम्रो छ र ? कथा वस्तु र प्रस्तुतीकरणको हिसाबले यो चलचित्र भन्दा धेरै राम्रा नेपाली चलचित्रहरु दर्शकहरुले पाईसकेका छन् । कागबेनी नेपालमा नचलेको तथ्यले यो पुष्टि गर्छ कि हिमाल पहाडहरु मात्र खिचेर, बिना कुनै प्रस्तुतीकरण चलचित्र बन्दैन । भविष्यको नेपाली चलचित्रमा हाई डेफिनिसन प्रविधिले अवश्य ठूलो भुमिका खेल्नेछ तर यदि चलचित्रका अन्य पक्षहरुलाई कागबेनीले झैं बेवास्ता गरिन्छ भने नेपाली दर्शकहरुको स्तरिय चलचित्रहरु हेर्ने सपना सपनै हुनेछ ।

अर्कातिर, चलचित्र सम्वन्धी पढ्न विदेशीएका नयाँ पुष्ताहरुलाई नेपालमा आएर गुणस्तरीय चलचित्र बनाउने मौका पनि अहिलेका अदक्ष चलचित्रकर्मीहरुको भिडले त्यति सजिलै दिने सम्भावना अवश्य छैन । जस अन्तरगत अदक्षहरु हलका मालिकहरुसँग मिलेर गुणस्तरीय चलचित्र प्रदर्शन हुनै नदिने एक उदाहरणको रुपमा देखापर्न सक्छ । यदि नेपाली चलचित्रमा यस्तै प्रथाले निरन्तरता पाउने हो भने, नेपाली चलचित्र क्षेत्रको भविष्य अन्धकार छ ।

गुणस्तरीय र राम्रो नेपाली चलचित्रलाई माया गरौं ।

Kagbeni - 16mm movie like any other nepali movie

Kagbeni a highly awaited nepali movie made under High Definition technology came like a technically good CRAP at last. With story really beginning after the interval and promotion too westernized for the nepali movie viewers, Bhusan Dahal's Kagbeni couldn't do as expected.

On the other hand, rumours about Kagbeni to be the first High Definition Cinemascope movie is truely UNTRUE. The camera used in shooting Kagbeni is "SI-2K mini". With its 2/3" CMOS Imaging sensor, its gives the image quality equivalent to 16mm film which is what most of other nepali movie makers are going with. We even talked with the producer of the SI-2K mini and they said we're right.

Announcing KAGBENI as first Hight Definition Cinemascope film was no big deal, because of people in the Nepali Film Industry have almost zero knowledge such things, but truth is truth and a lie is a lie no matter who speaks.

For your kind information, Camera SI-2K mini costs about 23,000 EURo, and the 360 degree crane used for excellent camera movement in the movie cost Nepali Rupees 4,80,000/- only.

So, it'll be no surprise if such equipments are brought in the country by other Nepali film makers.

And we'd also like to let nepali film makers know that High Definition Camera equivalent to 35mm movie film can be bought at very cheaper price compare to SI-2K.

Lastly, Long Live Nepali Movie

Kagbeni - Foolish Story Telling !

Highly awaited first nepali high definition movie Kagbeni came out to be a trash. As earlier gussed by many old style nepali film makers, the film turned out as expected. A film made by a music video maker.

The film definitely looked professional, though the director have tried to stick with the viewers with lots of mountains and himalayas.

I personally awaited for the movie really long and paid Rs.500 for the movie, and here's what I saw in the theatre.

Almost half of the movie goes like a documentary, with lots of himalayas and mountains. No story at all till 5 minutes before the interval the story begins. After the interval the story runs like hell, too fast to end up. Do anyone remember, you hardly see himalayas and mountains after the interval.

Though technically the movie seems good, it isn't the only aspect of a movie. Bhusan Dahal needs to work out more for a movie. He seems yet not ready for movie making but thanks to him for taking nepali movie industry to the digital world.

If I am to rate the movie I'll give it 2/10.

Nepali "Kagbeni" and Bollywood Movie "Saawariya" turned about to be the same this year.
